Restaurants and shops live and die by their frontage. It has to look open and inviting, and it also has to be somewhere people can sit at 4pm.

The challenge
A hospitality frontage has to do two contradictory things. It must look bright, open and busy from the street, because a dark window reads as a closed business. And it has to be somewhere a customer will actually choose to sit — which a west-facing window table is not, when the sun is low and directly in their eyes and the table is ten degrees hotter than the rest of the room.
What we did
Solar control film on the frontage glazing at each site. It cuts the heat and the glare on the window tables and near the entrance while leaving the glass visibly clear from the street, so the business still looks lit and open. Each install was scheduled around service so the floor never closed.
The result
The window seats stay usable through the afternoon rather than being the last tables filled, and staff working near the glass are out of direct sun. From the street the frontages still read as open and lit.
